The leaves are turning, the geese are migrating, there's frost overnight, and in the final capitulation of summer, I've had to put a shirt on.
Any of you that have lived with me, or dropped by unannounced for that matter, know that I'm not big on the whole clothing thing between June and September. I'll put on a shirt for social gatherings, but there's no way I'm getting dressed more often than I have to when it's forty-five degrees with the humidex.
Unfortunately, after getting hailed on twice in one day on the motorcycle, with gale force bonus winds, I've decided that summer is officially over with. Nothing like that first hypothermic episode of the year to really drive home the fact that it's once again shirt season, whether you like it or not.

I've always had problems finding someone to cut my hair properly. I think I've been happy with one, maybe two haircuts I've gotten in the last ten years. Either I just didn't know the right terminology, or the hairdressers were working with toxic chemicals a little too often, but for whatever reason, I never quite looked how I wanted.
It took me six months to get one girl to cut it close to right, and then I had to move for co-op. When I got back to school, she was gone, and her replacement, while just as cute, was similarly style-impaired. After I finally got her with the program, I graduated. And so on, and so forth.
Imagine my sheer glee when I discovered that Jill, a girl I knew in high school, is now a hairdresser at a salon in downtown Winnipeg. Now Jill is one of the coolest people I know, even though she'll go to her grave denying it. The girl is a complete freak, she's smart, she's funny, and she has more style in her little finger than any ten sheeple have in their entire bodies.
More importantly though, she managed to cut my hair perfectly on the first try.

In Praise of Small Business: I just got a call from Zack, the leather freak that made my bracelets for me. He was calling to see how they were working out for me. Not a sales thing, not an after the fact warning about some flaw...he just wanted to know how they were breaking in, did I like them, etc. If anything ever goes wrong with them, I'm to call him, and he'll fix it up for me, no problem.
Now, after materials costs, this guy made a maximum of twenty bucks from this deal, and he knows I won't be able to buy anything else for a good long time, but he still took the time to check up on his work, not to mention guaranteeing it for it's useful life.
If I'd bought these from your local House of Stylee, how much of that do you think they would have done? Not to mention the fact that these were custom fitted, and custom designed.

Where the hell did True Porn Clerk Stories go? I've told everybody and their dog about that shit, and now it's disappeared. Have they moved to different hosting, are they toast, or what? The whole domain seems to be pooched. Garg.

Go out and rent the Kung Pow DVD. Don't bother watching the movie itself; it's pretty marginal. Instead, switch the audio track to the "Long Lost Books on Tape" version. Now that's funny.
I spanked you when you were a baby, and I'll spank you again now, bitch.

If I wanted to buy a church, does anyone know who to talk to? Reasonably close to downtown in a decent sized metropolis. None of that United Church of the Strip Mall crap either, something early 20th century I think, and not monstrously huge. This is kind of a long-term deal, but it'd help to know how often these things go on sale, and ballpark how much I'd pay.
Would the price vary by denomination, or would it be more dependant on lawsuits, property values, conditions, etc.? Can you work out tax deals if you agree to leave the historical facade intact?

Yet another sad day. This time it's the (presumably) last episode of Daria, the bitter, bitter cartoon from MTV Animation, a.k.a. The Only Decent Animation Studio Working In The Last Five Years.
I'm more than a little surprised that the show ran as long as it did, given the fact that I actually found it funny...shows like that generally die a quiet death after half a season.
Pretentious College Grads that actually admit to enjoying television...Tonight on Sick Sad World!
Sigh.

I have seen the future of live music, and it is Kid Koala. I caught the single best DJ set I've ever witnessed last night. Kid Koala was juggling Bjork, Redman & Method Man, and two beat tracks, and he made it sound great. The man is obviously some sort of deity.

Who came here to dance? [Cheering] Too bad! I'm gonna play some records for you...

Incidentally, my ex seems to have a doppelganger, which was really freaking me out for a couple hours...it took us that long to figure out that it wasn't her.
